To till or not to till in a temperate ecosystem? Implications for climate change mitigation

چکیده
Abstract The management of agricultural soils affect the composition and scale their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. There is conflicting evidence on effect zero-tillage carbon storage GHG Here we assess effects over a range time frames (1–15 years) release controls in UK Net global warming potential was 30% lower under systems, due to dioxide fluxes, with greatest impacts after longer periods management. Simultaneously, soil stocks proportion sequestered recalcitrant increased while temperature sensitivity respiration decreased time, compared conventionally soils. We conclude that could play crucial role both reducing emissions at same increase sequestration, therefore contributing mitigate against climate change. Our findings are particularly important context designing new policies (for example Environmental Land Management Schemes UK) ensure sustainability production changing climate.

Optimizing Strip-Till and No-Till Systems for Corn
Recent developments in biofuel demand and the rapid adoption of modern transgenic hybrids are changing production systems towards more corn after corn, more intensive tillage, higher plant populations, and ever higher crop residue levels at harvest. Meeting society’s needs for food, feed, and fuel from grain corn, and in the future from corn stover, requires continued refinement of tillage syst...
متن کاملClimate change mitigation and ecosystem services: A stochastic analysis
Degradation of ecosystem services may be a major component of climate change damage, and incorporation of this factor could significantly alter the significance of uncertainty in climate-economy modeling. However, this aspect has been little investigated by economic analyses of climate change and uncertainty. We apply standardized numerical techniques of stochastic optimization to this research...

Case studies are presented of three HIV-infected patients, one heterosexual, one bisexual, and one homosexual, who continued to engage in unsafe sex. Western countries have seen an increase in unsafe sex practices since the early 1990s, raising the specter of a new wave of HIV infections. Increasing rates of sexually transmitted diseases are already being reported in case studies and by the Cen...

In October 2000 the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) published a Position Paper on the airport quinquennial reviews 1. The paper confirmed the CAA's intention to " undertake a fundamental review of its approach to the economic regulation of designated airports " and reaffirmed its commitment to the criterion of economic efficiency in assessing trade-offs between its statutory objectives under s.3...

and Vagners (1971, 1972) expressed this phenomenon elegantly by introducing the concept of "terminal mode" for the optimum grain size to which a mineral can be reduced, given the force and energy typically available in the glacial environment. Thus, hard, uncleaved or poorly cleaved minerals such as quartz, fcldspar, garnet, pyrite and magnetite dominate either the medium or the fine sand fract...
